Seed & Gift Store: The Spring Moon
The Seed & Gift Store is pleased to feature Farheen Ali, a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist creating jewellery art under the name The Spring Moon. This meaningful name was given to Farheen by her Japanese Sumi-e instructor after a five-year apprenticeship, symbolizing not just her technical mastery, but her enduring commitment to artistic growth. Through her jewellery, Farheen invites each wearer to become a part of her unfolding story, weaving their own unique narratives into every piece.
Farheen’s artistry is deeply inspired by the hidden connections that shape our world, and connect us to nature. These subtle interrelationships drive her creative process and are woven throughout her diverse body of work. Whether it be medical illustration, Japanese Sumi-e brush painting and jewellery art.
For The Butchart Gardens, Farheen has designed an exclusive jewellery collection inspired by the architectural elegance and timeless charm found throughout The Gardens. Each piece demonstrates her remarkable talent for translating place, form, and feeling into jewellery that carries both story and intention.

In describing her creative process, Farheen shares that “the main inspiration for this jewellery collection came from the beautiful architectural features found in the various parts of Butchart Gardens. Elements such as bold archways, geometric boxwoods, latticed trellis structures and rounded planters formed the basis of the earrings and necklaces in this collection, which mimics these curves and shapes. Just as these geometric structures in the garden provide contrast to the organic flowers around them, I too tried to capture this contrast by blending delicate, glass flowers with geometric cubes and steel tubes.”

Beyond The Butchart Gardens, Farheen crafts unique jewellery pieces exclusively for museums, drawing inspiration from historic manuscripts and artwork in their collections. Many of her creations can be found at the Aga Khan Museum and Gardiner Museum shops, where her work continues to captivate art lovers and collectors alike.
